IGNACIO GUILLÉN GALVE (b. 1968) read English at the University of Zaragoza (Spain), where he graduated in 1991. He has a PhD in English (2001), with a PhD thesis on ideational grammatical metaphor in the area of written medical English. He became a Tenured Lecturer at the Department of English and German Studies of the University of Zaragoza in 2003. While his research has concentrated mainly on the study of medical English from the standpoint of the systemic-functional concept of grammatical metaphor, his teaching has centred around the pronunciation of English, both through phonetics and phonology courses for the BA degree in English Studies as well as lectures delivered at teacher resource centres. His other research interests include translation assessment, particularly as regards the pragmatic and semiotic dimensions of context, the expression of ideational and interpersonal meanings in scientific English, and the popularisation of medical research articles, with a focus on lexicogrammatical aspects.
